Capitals, May 18 (SANA) Several Arab countries condemned Monday’s drone attack targeting Saudi Arabia from Iraqi airspace after Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed the aircraft.
In a statement carried by Emirates News Agency (WAM), the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a threat to the Kingdom’s security and stability.
The UAE reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures aimed at protecting its security and territorial integrity.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the attempted drone attack, calling it an unacceptable act and a threat to regional security and stability.
The ministry reiterated Doha’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for steps taken to safeguard the Kingdom’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens and residents.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned what it described as a dangerous escalation after three drones originating from Iraqi airspace targeted Saudi territory.
The ministry said the attack constituted a violation of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, while praising the efficiency of Saudi air defenses in intercepting and destroying the drones.
Bahrain also called on Iraq to take immediate measures to hold those responsible accountable and prevent the use of its territory or airspace for attacks targeting neighboring countries.
Jordan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack in a statement posted on the X platform, describing it as a blatant violation of Saudi sovereignty and a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter. The ministry reaffirmed Jordan’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassim Mohamed Al-Budaiwi also denounced this “hostile attack” against Saudi Arabia, warning that such actions threaten regional stability and vital infrastructure.
Al-Budaiwi stressed that the security of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of GCC member states, reaffirming the council’s unified support for the Kingdom.
On Sunday, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced that it had intercepted and destroyed three drones after they violated the Kingdom’s airspace from Iraqi territory, adding that Saudi Arabia reserves the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing.
