Beijing, May 6 (SANA) China called Wednesday for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the U.S.-Iranian conflict and urged the swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while reaffirming support for diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring regional stability.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks after meeting his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Beijing. Wang said renewed military escalation was “completely unacceptable” and stressed that dialogue remained the only viable path toward resolving the conflict.
Wang said Beijing hoped all parties would respond to growing international calls to restore safe and normal maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that Beijing would continue efforts to ease tensions, support peace negotiations and play a broader role in promoting stability in the Middle East.
China has a direct strategic interest in the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of its crude oil imports from the Middle East passes.
