London, May 9 (SANA) Britain said Saturday it will deploy the destroyer HMS Dragon to the Middle East, as it prepares for a possible mission in the Strait of Hormuz.
The vessel is currently based in the Mediterranean and will be repositioned as part of what the UK Ministry of Defense described as advance planning to ensure readiness for a potential multinational operation.
A ministry spokesperson said the deployment is part of coordinated planning within a UK–France-led multinational framework aimed at securing the strategic waterway “when conditions allow,” according to Agence France-Presse.
Separately, Germany on Friday sent a naval minesweeper to the Mediterranean, in what was seen as early positioning for possible involvement in an international mission linked to developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
The moves come amid heightened tensions in the region, where the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments, has repeatedly seen disruptions affecting energy markets and international shipping.
