Amman, May 3 (SANA) Jordan’s armed forces said Sunday they had destroyed a number of sites used by arms and drug traffickers along the country’s northern border, according to a military statement cited by the state news agency Petra.
The statement said intelligence and operational information enabled authorities to identify factories, facilities and warehouses used by traffickers to launch smuggling operations into Jordan. The sites were subsequently targeted and destroyed.
The military said attempts to smuggle weapons and narcotics have increased significantly in recent weeks, with trafficking groups exploiting weather conditions and the current regional situation while adopting new methods.
Jordan’s armed forces said they would continue to take preemptive and decisive action against any threat to the kingdom’s security and sovereignty.
On April 9, anti-narcotics authorities in Syria and Jordan carried out a joint operation that foiled an attempt to smuggle 943 kg of captagon through the Jaber border crossing.
Jordan and Syria have seen growing coordination in defense and security in recent months, particularly in efforts to combat drug and weapons smuggling.
