New York, April 30 (SANA) Qatar has reaffirmed its support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, while calling for dialogue and adherence to international law as key principles for resolving regional crises.

In a statement before the United Nations Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Qatar’s Permanent Representative Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani stressed the importance of political solutions based on respect for sovereignty and good neighbourliness to avoid further escalation in the region.

She reiterated Qatar’s firm position in support of Syria’s unity and condemned Israeli attacks that violate international law, alongside reaffirming the need to respect the sovereignty of countries in the region.

The Qatari envoy highlighted ongoing tensions in the Arabian Gulf and their broader implications for international peace and security, condemning Iranian attacks on Qatar and other Gulf countries, and calling for de-escalation and sustained dialogue between all parties.

She also underlined the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and the security of maritime routes, particularly in vital waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz, given their impact on global energy supplies and trade.

Qatar welcomed recent ceasefire efforts as a step toward reducing tensions, stressing the need to build on these developments to create conditions conducive to dialogue and long-term stability.

On the Palestinian issue, the envoy condemned Israeli measures in the occupied Palestinian territories and reiterated support for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.

Qatar also called for the full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the delivery of humanitarian aid, while reaffirming its commitment to mediation efforts and coordination with international partners to support recovery and reconstruction.
