Seoul, March 14 (SANA) South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on Saturday that North Korea launched about 10 ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan, coinciding with joint military exercises between Seoul and Washington.
According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said the launches were detected from the Sunan area in the North. This marks North Korea’s third ballistic missile launch this year.
The military added that South Korea remains on maximum alert, closely sharing information regarding North Korea’s ballistic missiles with the United States and Japan while closely monitoring the situation in case of additional launches.
The launches come as South Korea and the United States are conducting their annual joint exercises, called “Freedom Shield,” which began last Monday and will continue until the 19th of this month. Pyongyang considers the drills a threat to its security and sovereignty.
