Buenos Aires, April 29 (SANA) Argentina’s Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that joint military exercises with the United States have begun in the South Atlantic, involving the U.S. aircraft carrier Nimitz.
According to AFP, the drills started Tuesday and are set to continue through Thursday in Argentina’s exclusive economic zone, as the Nimitz and the destroyer Gridley operate off the Argentine coast under a decree signed by President Javier Milei.
The exercises form part of broader military cooperation between Argentina and the United States.
The Argentine government has also authorized the entry of U.S. military personnel and equipment for additional exercises known as “Atlantic Dagger,” which began on April 21 and will run until June 12.
Training activities are taking place at several military sites, including the naval base in Puerto Belgrano, the 7th Air Brigade in Moreno and the Córdoba military garrison.
The Nimitz entered Argentine territorial waters on Sunday and was positioned Tuesday off the coast of Mar del Plata, about 400 kilometers south of Buenos Aires.
