Mecca, April 21 (SANA) The Muslim World League on Tuesday condemned Israel’s announcement of appointing a diplomatic envoy to the so-called Somaliland, saying the move violates Somalia’s sovereignty and international law.
In a statement, Secretary-General Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa said the decision represents a clear breach of Somalia’s territorial integrity and poses a threat to regional and international peace and security. He added that it contravenes international law, the UN Charter, and the founding principles of the African Union.
Al-Issa reaffirmed the League’s full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and legitimate institutions as the true expression of the Somali people’s will.
The statement follows Israel’s announcement in December of mutual recognition with Somaliland, a self-declared entity since 1991, a move widely rejected regionally and internationally. Israel later confirmed appointing an envoy to the region earlier this month.
