Madrid, April 19 (SANA) The governments of Brazil, Mexico and Spain have called for urgent international action to address the humanitarian situation in Cuba, stressing the need to adhere to international law and the United Nations Charter.
In a joint statement released by Spain’s Foreign Ministry, the three countries expressed concern over the deterioration of living conditions in Cuba and urged all parties to avoid steps that could worsen the situation or violate international law.
The three countries also called for respect for state sovereignty, territorial integrity and the peaceful settlement of disputes, without external interference. They renewed their call for dialogue based on international law and the UN Charter to find lasting solutions that guarantee the Cuban people’s right to self-determination.
The call comes as Cuba explores economic reform measures amid mounting political and economic pressures that have contributed to migration and social challenges.
Earlier this year, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump imposed new restrictions on Cuba’s oil sector as part of a “maximum pressure” strategy, according to official statements. The measures have added to economic difficulties, including shortages of food, medicine and fuel, as well as power outages.
