Washington, Apr.12 (SANA) US President Donald Trump said that Iran had promised to reopen the Strait of Hormuz but has been delaying action.
This assertion was made in a post he shared on Sunday via his social media platform, Truth Social, where he voiced his concerns over the ongoing closure of the strait, a crucial passage for global oil and gas trade that has led to significant disruptions and challenges for numerous countries worldwide.
Trump stated that he had directed the US Navy to monitor any vessels in international waters that remit fees to Iran, warning that those vessels would be intercepted. He wrote: “No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas, and any Iranian who fires at us or at peaceful vessels will be blown to hell.”
Additionally, Trump announced the US Navy’s intention to enforce a blockade on all vessels attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that this action would be initiated soon.
He noted that a possible agreement to ensure freedom of navigation through the strait exists, but accused Iran of impeding this potential resolution by alluding to the presence of unidentified sea mines, stating that only Tehran knows their locations. He emphasized that the US Navy is currently working on eliminating these mines.
Regarding the ongoing negotiations in Islamabad, Trump mentioned that he had received a comprehensive briefing from Vice President J.D. Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and negotiator Jared Kushner.
He commended the efforts of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his team. Trump pointed out that the nearly 20 hours of negotiations revealed to the US delegation that “Iran is unwilling to give up its nuclear ambitions!”
