Washington, Apr.11 (SANA) The US military initiated field operations to dispose naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command said in an official statement two guided missile destroyers had already crossed the strait to carry out their assigned missions.
The statement noted that the operation is part of a broader mission aimed at securing the waterway and ensuring it is devoid of naval mines allegedly planted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said work is underway to create a “new maritime corridor,” the technical details of which will soon be shared with the global shipping sector.
Cooper also disclosed plans to deploy additional reinforcements in the coming days, including unmanned underwater vehicles to support mine-clearing efforts.
