Cairo, March 31 (SANA) Egypt on Tuesday condemned Israel’s approval of a law allowing the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, describing it as an unprecedented escalation and a violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the measure undermines principles of justice and equality before the law and affects the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories.
The ministry warned that the move, alongside ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, could further destabilize the region and intensify the current military escalation. It called on the international community to take urgent steps to halt violations and protect Palestinian rights.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit also condemned the law as a form of apartheid, saying it contradicts international humanitarian law and reflects broader policies affecting Palestinian rights. He urged the international community to act swiftly in response.
