Beirut, March 30 (SANA) A UNIFIL peacekeeper was killed and another seriously injured on Sunday following a shell explosion at a position near the village of Adshit al-Qusayr in southern Lebanon, the UN mission announced.
“The source of the shell remains unknown, and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident,” Reuters quoted a UNIFIL spokesperson as saying.
The incident occurs amid escalating cross-border tensions. In recent months, UNIFIL positions and patrols in southern Lebanon have repeatedly come under fire or been affected by Israeli shelling near their locations, resulting in several casualties.
Lebanon has frequently accused the Israeli military of violating international law through its ongoing attacks in the region.
