Beijing, March 28 (SANA) – International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi on Saturday criticized attacks on nuclear facilities as “unacceptable” and called on all parties to resume negotiations to ensure long-term regional peace and stability.
Speaking to China’s CGTN television, Grossi warned that nuclear power plants must never be targeted or have their physical integrity compromised, highlighting the severe risks such attacks could pose.
The IAEA plays a critical role in protecting nuclear sites and works closely with countries in the region, particularly Gulf states, to enhance preparedness and emergency response capabilities, Grossi said.
He added that the agency provides guidance, training, and analytical tools to help authorities respond to potential worst-case scenarios, including radioactive leaks that could result from attacks on nuclear installations.
Grossi emphasized that the nuclear issue can only be resolved through peaceful means and urged all sides to return to negotiations to achieve a durable solution.
Earlier this week, the IAEA had called for heightened efforts to avoid nuclear risks following reports that a projectile had fallen near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, underlining the fragility of nuclear safety in the current conflict environment.
