Ankara, March 28 (SANA) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Saturday that Türkiye opposes any escalation that could push the region toward a broader conflict, warning that current tensions reflect deep-rooted instability.
Speaking on the second day of the International Strategic Communication Summit “Stratcom 2026” in Istanbul, Fidan said tensions linked to Israel risk triggering a wider war, according to Anadolu Agency. He stressed Ankara’s opposition to developments that could draw countries in the region into a broader confrontation.
Fidan said Iran’s actions are also affecting Gulf countries, adding that the conflict’s repercussions are expanding beyond the region and contributing to rising geopolitical and economic pressures globally.
He said de-escalation and diplomacy remain the only viable path forward, noting that Türkiye is working with regional partners to maintain dialogue and push for urgent negotiations.
On Lebanon, Fidan called for swift steps to end the conflict and prevent further escalation, warning of its potential impact on the global economy.
He also condemned attacks on humanitarian workers, mediators and diplomats, describing them as a sign of serious deterioration in the international system, which he said has struggled to contain escalating crises.
Fidan added that the international system is facing a deeper crisis, marked by a loss of “moral compass” and legitimacy, with institutions increasingly unable to maintain security or stability. He called for reassessing its fairness, reliability and predictability, saying many countries are losing geopolitical balance amid the rise of self-interest-driven policies.
