Brussels, March 26 (SANA) NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Transformation said member states must urgently reassess their defense capabilities, warning that many have yet to fully grasp the scale of rapidly evolving challenges, particularly in military production.
Speaking at a security and defense forum in Paris on Wednesday, Admiral Pierre Vandier said that “Russia has changed, and we must be prepared for a new adversary,” adding that failure to do so could leave the alliance facing risks similar to those seen in the Gulf.
He stressed that NATO must adapt to a new reality requiring faster and greater production of munitions and drones, noting that “it’s not about money, it’s about speed.” He added that Russia and Iran are producing drones in large quantities with increasingly advanced capabilities, prompting the alliance to review its security priorities.
In a related development, France’s Chief of Staff, General Fabien Mandon, said the country must be prepared within the next three to four years for the possibility of direct confrontation with Russia.
Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2012, Moscow has shifted its economy toward strengthening its military industries. The French Institute of International Relations warned last November that Europe may struggle to quickly produce sufficient weapons in the event of a large-scale conflict with Russia.
