Vatican City, March 25 (SANA) Pope Leo XIV expressed concern Tuesday over escalating tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East, calling for a ceasefire and a return to dialogue, as he spoke to reporters while leaving his residence.
“Hatred is increasing, and the violence is getting worse,” the pope told reporters, adding that solutions cannot be achieved with weapons but through negotiations that provide a way forward for all parties.
His remarks come amid reports that Washington is considering sending thousands of additional troops to the Middle East as part of a broader military buildup, according to media reports.
The pope has repeatedly called for an end to conflicts in the region, previously describing the situation as “a disgrace to the human family.”
Indirect contacts between the United States and Iran are continuing through mediators from several countries, including Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan and Oman, in efforts to explore possible understandings.
