Beirut, March 16 (SANA) Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned attacks targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), describing them as violations of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the ministry said in a statement that Lebanon “condemns in the strongest terms the shooting incidents targeting UNIFIL forces while carrying out routine patrols near their bases in Yater, Deir Kifa and Qlaileh in southern Lebanon.”
The ministry also expressed Lebanon’s “full and unwavering solidarity with UNIFIL, its leadership and the countries contributing troops to the mission.” and stressed its commitment to enforcing state authority across its territory and restricting weapons to official institutions.
Lebanon reaffirmed its determination to enforce state sovereignty across its entire territory and to restrict weapons to its legitimate institutions.
Earlier, UNIFIL said its patrols were involved in three shooting incidents while operating near their positions in southern Lebanon.
The peacekeeping force said its personnel returned fire in self-defence and that no injuries were reported.
