Abu Dhabi, March 15 (SANA) – UAE Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh called for international action to prevent Iran from tightening its grip on the Strait of Hormuz, warning that disruptions in the strategic waterway could threaten global energy and food security.
In an interview with the Euronews, Nusseibeh said the international community must not allow Iran to hold the global economy hostage through its actions in the vital shipping corridor.
She warned that any prolonged disruption to navigation through the strait could have serious repercussions for global energy prices and food supply chains, noting that around 20% of the world’s energy shipments pass through the waterway.
Nusseibeh said the United Arab Emirates continues efforts to manage the growing global energy crisis and maintain stability in international markets.
The minister also stressed that the UAE remains a responsible supplier in global energy markets and a major logistics hub connecting international trade routes.
She noted that the UAE has faced a significant share of Iranian missile and drone attacks in the region since the outbreak of the war, but said the country has maintained stability despite the challenges.
According to Nusseibeh, the government’s priority since the beginning of the attacks has been protecting civilians and ensuring the continuity of economic activity.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Arabian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, is considered one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for global oil transport.
