Security Council passes resolution condemning Iranian strikes

New York,Mar.12 (SANA)   The UN Security Council adopted on Wednesday a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on Gulf states and Jordan, describing them as a violation of international law and a threat to international peace and security.

The resolution passed with 13 votes in favor, while Russia and China abstained.

Bahrain’s representative, speaking on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan, said the resolution reflects a clear international stance rejecting Iranian aggression against civilians and civilian infrastructure, and demonstrates broad support for the security and stability of the region.

He stressed that protecting the security of the Arabian Gulf is a shared international responsibility linked to global economic stability and the safety of supply and energy chains.

France’s representative said the vote “reflects a firm position toward Iran’s indiscriminate attacks,” emphasizing that international law and diplomacy remain the only path to long term regional stability. He added that continued Iranian escalation poses a direct threat to global trade and energy security.

The United Kingdom’s representative said the resolution sends a clear message condemning Iran’s reckless attack on Gulf states and Jordan, noting that the Council’s support for regional peace and national sovereignty reflects a firm commitment to UN principles.

Greece’s representative stated that the attacks harmed civilians and vital infrastructure, deepening political and social mistrust in the region. He stressed that de escalation and political dialogue are essential to preventing a cycle of violence.

Several Gulf states and Jordan have been subjected to Iranian missile and drone attacks since February 28, following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
