Beirut, March 27 (SANA) Marcoluigi Corsi, UNICEF Representative in Lebanon, announced on Friday that 121 children have been killed and more than 370,000 displaced as a result of the ongoing military escalation and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country.
Marcoluigi Corsi told reporters that 399 children have also been injured and that displacement now affects roughly 20 percent of Lebanon’s population, with one-quarter of women and girls forced from their homes.
Corsi urged immediate, unhindered humanitarian access.
UNHCR’s representative in Lebanon, Carolina Lindholm Billing, warned that the country is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis that could soon become catastrophic. She said more than one million people have fled their homes since 2 March.
Billing noted that 136,000 displaced people are sheltering in 660 overcrowded collective sites, mostly schools, and that the psychological toll, particularly on children, will endure beyond the conflict.
Israel has intensified its attacks on Lebanon since 2 March following Hezbollah’s targeting of Israeli positions. It has carried out heavy airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, as well as wide areas in the south and the Bekaa, alongside ground incursions aimed at establishing a buffer zone north of the Litani River.
