Tokyo, Feb. 11 (SANA) Japan on Tuesday expressed deep concern over recent decisions by the Israeli authorities regarding the West Bank, urging a full freeze on settlement activities and warning that such steps undermine prospects for a two-state solution.
In a statement issued by Press Secretary Kitamura Toshihiro, the Government of Japan said it was “deeply concerned” that Israel had amended a series of measures, including those related to real estate transactions in the West Bank, which implied an acceleration of settlement development.
“The Government of Japan reiterates its deep regret over the continuing unilateral acts including settlement activities by the Government of Israel despite repeated calls by the international community, including Japan,” the statement said. It added that Japan “strongly urges” Israel authorities to redress the decision and fully freeze its settlement activities.
Tokyo also called on Israel to take “appropriate measures promptly to prevent settler violence,” stressing the urgency of refraining from any actions that could escalate tensions in the West Bank.
The statement noted that the call comes amid ongoing international efforts to stabilize the situation surrounding the Gaza Strip in line with what it described as a Comprehensive Plan.
Japan reiterated its position that settlement activities are in violation of international law and undermine the viability of a two-state solution. It said it would continue to exert diplomatic efforts, in coordination with the international community, to halt settlement expansion and support broader regional stabilization initiatives.
