Gaza, Jan. 22 (SANA) Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) has warned of rapidly deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza amid severe winter weather and ongoing Israeli military operations.
Hunter McGovern, the organization’s project coordinator in Gaza, said in a statement Wednesday that many residents are living in makeshift shelters or damaged tents exposed to strong winds and heavy rain. “Children and adults alike are suffering from the cold,” he said, noting that Israeli airstrikes continue and some international NGOs have had their operations restricted.
The Gaza City project currently supports nearly 2,900 patients, according to McGovern, who added that support from other relief organizations remains insufficient.
Since October 2023, Israel has revoked the licenses of 37 international NGOs providing humanitarian aid in Gaza and the West Bank and continues to restrict the entry of food, medicine, and other supplies. Gaza, home to around 2.4 million people, now hosts roughly 1.5 million displaced residents and has been under blockade for more than 18 years.
