Occupied Jerusalem, Feb. 23 (SANA) The Palestinian Prisoners Media Office said detention conditions in Negev Prison have seen increased restrictions by Israeli authorities, amid ongoing medical neglect, food shortages and the continued renewal of administrative detention without a clear time limit.
In a statement issued Monday, the office said Palestinian prisoners are suffering from serious health problems due to inadequate medical care. Some are dealing with infections and untreated illnesses, while others suffer from skin diseases requiring urgent treatment.
The office said recent visits revealed significant weight loss among several prisoners, reflecting food shortages and overcrowding inside cells. It also noted the continued renewal of administrative detention orders for a number of detainees.
The office called on human rights organizations to monitor prison conditions, work to improve detention circumstances and release sick and elderly prisoners, as well as those held under administrative detention.
According to Palestinian prisoner groups, more than 9,300 Palestinians from the West Bank are being held in Israeli detention centers, including over 350 children and more than 50 women, in addition to more than 1,340 detainees from the Gaza Strip.
