U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States has been and will continue to be a “top-tier ally” of Japan, reaffirming the strength of U.S.-Japan ties.
During his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo, President Trump expressed his “great love and deep respect for Japan,” while Takaichi called for a “new golden era” in bilateral relations amid rising military tensions with China, Agence France-Presse reported.
The two leaders signed a framework agreement to secure rare earth minerals and pledged to boost cooperation in supply chain resilience. Japan is the second stop on Trump’s Asian tour, which will continue on to South Korea before a key summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.
