New York/Amman, SANA-Jordan condemned Israel’s attack on UNIFIL forces in Lebanon, calling it a blatant violation of international law, UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and Lebanese sovereignty.
UNIFIL confirmed its troops came under a “serious” Israeli strike while clearing obstacles near the Blue Line. Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad al-Majali warned the assault threatens regional stability and reiterated Amman’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and security.
For his part, UN Secretary-General António Guterres voiced deep concern, stressing that endangering peacekeepers’ lives is “unacceptable” and urging all parties to ensure the safety of UN personnel.
The Security Council recently renewed UNIFIL’s mandate until the end of 2026, with a phased withdrawal scheduled to begin next year.
