Damascus, Jan. 16 (SANA) Minister of Education Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko affirmed that the issuance of Decree No. 13 of 2026 marks an important national milestone, reflecting Syria’s belief that its unity is built on the diversity of its people and on respecting their cultural and linguistic identities within an inclusive national framework that excludes no one and marginalizes no component.
Turko said in a statement on Friday that the introduction of Kurdish language instruction in state schools represents a significant step forward in strengthening the values of equal citizenship and consolidating the cultural rights of Kurdish citizens as an integral part of Syria’s national fabric.
He noted that the Ministry of Education will begin drafting the executive instructions and regulatory decisions required to implement the decree as soon as possible, ensuring its immediate entry into force.
Turko concluded by affirming that Syria’s national schools will continue to be spaces of belonging rather than exclusion, platforms of justice rather than discrimination, instruments for safeguarding diversity and strengthening unity among citizens, and bridges of love that connect all Syrians in heart and spirit.
President Ahmad al-Sharaa had issued Decree No. 13 of 2026, affirming that Syrian Kurdish citizens are an essential and integral part of the Syrian people, and that their cultural and linguistic identity is an inseparable component of Syria’s unified and pluralistic national identity.
