Damascus Chamber of Industry, ILO Regional Office, discuss joint cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Director of Damascus and its countryside Chamber of Industry, Eng. Muhammad Ayman al-Mawlawi discussed Friday with the International Labour Organization, Regional Office for Arab States (ILO ROAS), headed by Badra Alawa, Specialist Enterprise Development, opportunities for cooperation between the two sides to promote entrepreneurship and develop the private sector.

During the meeting that took place on Thursday at the Chamber’s headquarters, the two sides reviewed the organization’s role in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises and discussed how private banks can contribute to economic recovery and create job opportunities by providing financial and non-financial services to entrepreneurs.

Alwa presented the ILO’s Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) program, which aims to train and certify entrepreneurs and assess opportunities for joint efforts in capacity building and access to finance.

Alwa also affirmed that the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry is one of the organization’s key partners, especially at this stage, which is witnessing the development of the International Labor Organization’s strategy within the framework of decent work, the business climate, and related laws. She indicated that the Chamber will play a key role in the “Start and Improve Your Business” program through short-, medium-, and long-term cooperation.
