Syrian, GCC Chambers of Commerce talks to boost cooperation

Syrian, GCC Chambers of Commerce talks to boost cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Chairman of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Alaa Omar al-Ali, and -Chairman of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Issam al-Ghraywati,, discussed with the Secretary-General of the Federation of Chambers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi , ways to boost and develop joint cooperation in various economic and commercial fields.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General of the (GCC) expressed his hope to see Syria, a generous country, among the ranks of developed countries.

He affirmed the Gulf states’ keenness to enter the Syrian market and the importance of the permanent presence of Syrian expertise in the Gulf states through the establishment of joint projects that benefit both sides.

The Secretary-General pointed to the necessity to develop an action plan that includes holding upcoming meetings or a private sector forum between the two sides, whether in Damascus or one of the Gulf states, to contribute to the exchange of expertise and enhance cooperation and coordination between the various parties.

For his part, the Chairman of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce said that the government has begun changing laws and implementing the necessary reforms to revive the economy and identify the most important sectors for reconstruction and development, following the fall of the former regime, which controlled most of the country’s economic activities.

Al-Ali said that Syria now has a free market economy, based on principles and controls that safeguard the interests of the Syrian people while taking into account the country’s standing in the international community.

The Federation President stressed the importance of Gulf investors visiting Syria and reviewing the projects available for investment. He noted that Syria offers promising investment opportunities in most sectors and has become a safe, stable, and fertile environment for investors, especially after the lifting of US and European sanctions.

For his part, Issam al-Ghraywati pointed out that Syria is now making steady progress toward economic transformation and openness to investment, now that the Syrian economy is based on free market principles.

He underlined that investment opportunities in the country are now available in various sectors, from health and education to banking, hotels, energy, and infrastructure.
