Minister of Economy, EU Commission delegation discuss lifting all sanctions on Syria

Damascus, SANA- Caretaker Minister of Economy, Basel Abdul-Aziz Abdul Hannan, discussed with a delegation from the EU Commission the importance of continuing to lift all sanctions on Syria, which will positively reflect on the country’s economy and the living conditions of its people.

The meeting, which took place in the ministry building, discussed the frozen amounts held in European countries and the necessity of recovering them as they are the right of the Syrian people, especially those related to the figures of the former regime.

Minister Abdul Hannan explained that institutions will be restructured in a manner consistent with the free market system, laws and legislation that were obstructing the economic process will be amended, and short-term emergency plans will be worked on until the Syrian economy recovers.

He pointed out that the state will not interfere in the market, and its role will be supervisory, regulatory, and oversight, and it will be keen to support the local industry so that it is able to export, and considering that “one year is enough to achieve change in the Syrian economy.”

The Minister underscored the importance of development training programs for government cadres in various fields, after a large number of them emigrated abroad, as a result of corruption and the security grip of the Assad gang.

He noted that more than 100 investors returned to Syria during the past month to participate in the reconstruction process despite the existing obstacles such as the energy issue and the sanctions that have not yet been resolved.
