Damascus, Sept. 16 (SANA) US companies are exploring investment opportunities in Syria, with several projects and agreements under negotiation, Syrian Sovereign Fund officials said Tuesday during talks with a visiting US economic delegation in Damascus.

Mohammad Musattat, Director of Public Relations at the Syrian Sovereign Fund, said representatives of US companies had traveled to Damascus to assess the Syrian market and available investment opportunities amid the country’s economic opening and the lifting of sanctions.

Musattat said US companies are looking to invest in the Syrian economy, adding that a number of agreements and projects remain under negotiation and will be announced at the appropriate time.

Yasir Kahf, Director of Development and Planning at the Syrian Sovereign Fund, said the fund manages a diverse investment portfolio spanning multiple sectors and companies and is open to partnerships with US and international firms through various investment models, including joint ventures tailored to the nature of each sector.

Kahf said the fund had held discussions with representatives of government entities and private companies, during which the two sides exchanged views and proposals on potential areas of cooperation.

He described the first visit to Syria by a US Chamber of Commerce delegation as an important step toward strengthening economic cooperation.

The roundtable was part of a series of ministerial meetings launched in Damascus on Monday and organized by the International Cooperation and American Affairs departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic partnerships with the visiting US delegation.
