Damascus, Sept. 7 (SANA) Syria on Monday launched a $1.5 million economic empowerment project aimed at helping vulnerable rural women build sustainable livelihoods through vocational training, small-business support and improved access to markets.
The 18-month “Seed Initiative” will directly support 520 women, while around 285,320 people are expected to benefit indirectly from its activities.
The project is supported by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Launched at al-Sham Hotel in Damascus under the patronage of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the initiative will provide training and support for small-scale businesses.
It will also establish production, food-processing and composting facilities and help connect participating women with markets, with the broader goal of expanding economic opportunities for rural communities.
