Damascus, Aug. 10 (SANA) Syria’s Agriculture Ministry and Saudi Arabia’s United Feeds Company signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to study the development of large-scale fodder farms and production facilities in Syria.

Agriculture Minister Basel al-Suwaidan and United Feeds Company Chairman Emad Abdul Qadir Al Muhaidib signed the agreement at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus.

The MoU covers a study into establishing fodder and feed crop farms across an estimated area of up to 30,000 hectares in eastern Syria, using sustainable center-pivot and linear irrigation systems.

The proposed farms would be linked to fodder production plants, processing facilities and logistics services, as part of efforts to develop an integrated production chain.

The agreement follows an MoU signed in July between the Syrian Sovereign Fund and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Muhaideb Group to study and develop strategic investment opportunities in Syria’s food industry.

That agreement focuses on cattle breeding and dairy production projects in cooperation with a leading European dairy company, with plans to introduce modern technology and expertise, strengthen value chains and develop Syria’s food processing sector.

The latest agreement comes as the Syrian government seeks to attract investment into productive sectors, expand partnerships with foreign companies and support projects aimed at creating jobs, strengthening food security and promoting sustainable economic development.
