Seoul, June 28 (SANA) Two more South Korean-linked vessels have transited the Strait of Hormuz after being stranded there for several months due to the conflict in the Middle East, South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on Sunday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the ministry said the vessels, operated by South Korean shipping companies, had been waiting inside the strait and are now sailing normally after completing the passage.
The ministry said 43 South Korean crew members remain stranded in the strait, including personnel aboard South Korean vessels and foreign-flagged ships.
It added that it continues to monitor the situation in real time and, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry, has provided diplomatic and navigational assistance to help ensure the safe passage of vessels through the strategic waterway.
The two vessels were among 26 South Korean-linked ships stranded after Iran closed shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz in late February following the outbreak of the conflict.
Three South Korean-linked vessels remain in the strait, including the Namu, operated by South Korean shipping company HMM, which is undergoing repairs at the Port of Dubai after sustaining damage in missile attacks linked to Iran.
Last week, the ministry announced that two other South Korean vessels had successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz following an agreement between the United States and Iran.
