Homs, June.26 (SANA) Syrian engineering expertise managed to recommission the XJ workover rig in the central oilfields of Homs after completing a full rehabilitation using domestic engineering and technical expertise, the Syrian Ministry of Energy said on Thursday.
Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir inspected the project during a field visit to the central region oilfields, where officials said the rig had been restored after previously being taken out of operation because of technical failures.
The ministry said the rehabilitation was carried out by technical teams from the Fields Directorate using locally available expertise and resources.
Al-Bashir said the restored rig would help accelerate maintenance operations at oil and gas wells and support government plans to increase production.
The ministry noted that the project follows the return to service earlier this month of the “Uralmash-2” drilling rig, which had also been rehabilitated by engineers from the Syrian Petroleum Company after sustaining damage.
Syria has been working to restore oil and gas infrastructure damaged during years of war as part of broader efforts to revive domestic energy production. The Ministry of Energy has increasingly relied on Syrian technical expertise to rehabilitate drilling and workover rigs, reducing dependence on imported equipment and supporting maintenance operations in the country’s producing fields.
