Damascus, Oct. 29 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management plans to pursue training partnerships with international companies following the FORTIX 2026 security and safety exhibition in Damascus, as part of efforts to modernize the country’s safety and civil protection sector.
Ibrahim Shannan, Director of Safety and Civil Protection at the ministry, told SANA on Thursday that several international companies participating in the exhibition had offered technical assistance and training programs for Syrian personnel.
The ministry aims to sign memorandums of understanding with some of the companies to develop local expertise and improve safety practices in line with internationally recognized standards, including those of the U.S. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and European Standards (EN), Shannan said.
FORTIX 2026, Syria’s first specialized international security and safety exhibition, concluded Wednesday at the Damascus Exhibition City after four days of showcasing technologies and services related to emergency management, disaster response and civil protection.
Shannan said the event brought together government institutions, engineering firms and local and international companies, providing a platform for exchanging expertise and exploring potential partnerships.
Several agreements were reached among participating companies and organizations, he said, without providing details of their value or scope.
The exhibition also attracted Syrian companies operating in European and Gulf countries that are considering entering the Syrian market and seeking information about licensing requirements and regulatory procedures.
Shannan said visitors showed particular interest in Syria’s plans for safety regulations, engineering approvals, operational procedures and product certification standards.
He added that organizers intend to expand international participation in future editions of the exhibition, citing positive feedback from participating companies.
Some exhibitors operate in as many as 108 countries, offering specialized safety and civil protection products certified under international standards, he said.
The exhibition opened on October 25 and was organized by Wasm Electronic Solutions and Smart Programming Company in cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management.
