Damascus, Apr.24 ( SANA) The Central Bank of Syria ( CBS) said on Thursday that the circular attributed to a money exchange company is inaccurate, as it was issued before any official decision by the bank, and it included a claim that all remittances to be delivered in Syrian pounds, which is incorrect.
“The circular was limited exclusively to remittances received through money transfer companies such as- Western Union-and similar services, and stipulated that they would be delivered in Syrian pounds at the official exchange rate published by the Central Bank, with a margin to reflect the market rate, thus achieving balance and serving the interests of customers,” the CBS said in a statement.
The Central Bank of Syria affirms that there is no contradiction between its official statement and what is being circulated, and that the content of the aforementioned unofficial circular is invalid.
In response to requests from money transfer companies, it was decided to postpone the implementation of the aforementioned procedure until May 1st, to allow sufficient time to complete the necessary technical preparations.
