Damascus, April 18 (SANA) — Syria’s Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh held talks with senior officials from the International Monetary Fund’s Fiscal Affairs Department on expanding technical cooperation.
The discussions, held on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, focused on strengthening public financial management, reforming the tax system, and developing a legal framework governing state rights in oil and gas contracts, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
Talks also included unifying public sector accounts into a single treasury system, preparing the 2027 state budget, improving public debt management, and enhancing customs administration.
The two sides discussed support for developing a national salary and wage payment system.
They agreed to hold remote technical workshops in the coming week, followed by the return of IMF technical missions to Damascus and a workshop in the Syrian capital next month focused on tax reform.
On Friday, Barnieh met IMF Statistics Department Director Bert Kroese to discuss support for Syria’s statistical system, also on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings
