Washington, April 17 (SANA) Syrian Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh met the President of the OPEC Fund for International Development, Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, to explore the resumption of the Fund’s activities in Syria, on the sidelines of Syria’s participation in the IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington.
The talks focused on the Fund’s return to its development programs in Syria. The Syrian delegation presented three brief proposals covering the “Syria Without Camps” project, the national recovery plan, and the poverty reduction and livelihood improvement strategy currently under preparation.

Discussions also highlighted the potential for OFID to contribute to rural development projects within these frameworks.
Both sides also discussed outstanding debt issues and agreed to continue technical coordination with the IMF and World Bank.

The 2026 IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings are being held in Washington from April 13 to 18, with the participation of government leaders, the private sector, and civil‑society organizations to discuss global economic prospects, development challenges, and financial-market stability.
