Istanbul, April 7 (SANA) Syria and Türkiye signed an economic cooperation agreement on Tuesday at the conclusion of the first meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) in Istanbul, officials said.
The agreement, signed by Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar and Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, aims to ease trade flows, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and improve the investment environment between the two countries. It includes provisions to expand public-private partnerships, support joint investment projects, and strengthen cooperation in key sectors.
Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said earlier that his talks with a visiting Syrian delegation reflect efforts to expand economic engagement with Syria through what he described as “commercial diplomacy,” focusing on industrial cooperation and broader trade ties.

In a post on X, Bolat said talks with Syrian Minister Nidal al-Shaar addressed current trade relations and explored potential areas for cooperation.
He added that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade based on mutual trust, assessing opportunities for industrial collaboration, and upgrading customs procedures to facilitate commerce.
A Syrian economic delegation led by al-Shaar attended the meeting in Istanbul as part of efforts to advance bilateral economic cooperation.
