Damascus, March 3 (SANA) Syria’s Energy Ministry said Tuesday there is no shortage of fuel supplies in the country, attributing recent congestion at gas stations to panic buying fueled by regional tensions and market volatility.
In a statement, the ministry said gasoline, diesel and domestic gas remain available across the country and that refineries are operating normally. It added that crude oil import contracts are proceeding through approved channels and that operational reserves remain within safe levels.
The clarification came after long lines formed at several fuel stations in recent hours, with sales reportedly exceeding 300% of the normal daily average. The ministry said the surge in demand was driven by public concern over escalating military tensions in the region and fluctuations in global energy markets, rather than by an actual disruption in supply.
“The congestion observed at some fuel stations resulted from an unprecedented rise in demand,” the ministry said, urging citizens to rely on official sources of information and to avoid responding to rumors.
The ministry said it is monitoring regional developments on a daily basis and has taken measures to ensure the continuity of essential services.
Regional energy markets have faced renewed uncertainty in recent days amid rising geopolitical tensions, prompting concerns across several Middle Eastern countries about potential supply disruptions
