Damascus, Feb. 24 (SANA) – Syria and Jordan held talks on Tuesday regarding strengthening agricultural cooperation, expanding trade exchange, and harmonizing standards between the two countries.
The discussions focused on facilitating the exchange of agricultural products, easing transport, transit and customs procedures, and unifying veterinary and plant health certificates, testing methods, and quality standards to support smoother trade flows.
Both sides also explored the adoption of a joint agricultural calendar, the formation of specialized technical committees, and enhanced cooperation in agricultural research and knowledge exchange.
The talks addressed cross-border trucking arrangements and stressed the importance of establishing a jointly supervised quarantine center based on shared health standards.
The two parties underscored the need to reactivate the quadrilateral agreement between Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon to support regional agricultural cooperation and trade.
The meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts by both countries to revitalize the agricultural sector and facilitate the movement of goods across borders in support of regional economic activity.
