Damascus, Feb. 16 (SANA) The Syrian government on Monday launched a new national agricultural strategy aimed at strengthening food security and supporting economic recovery, in cooperation with international organizations.

The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is aimed at providing a comprehensive roadmap for revitalizing the agricultural sector, improving productivity and contributing to broader economic growth.

Agriculture Minister Amjad Badr described the plan as central to stabilizing both the economy and communities. “The agricultural strategy represents a safeguard for the economy and society and reflects our vision for the future of the sector in Syria,” he said during the meeting.

Badr added that strengthening agriculture would support reconstruction efforts and help create conditions for displaced Syrians to return to their hometowns.

Ali Keda, assistant secretary-general of the Presidency for Cabinet Affairs, said the strategy is a priority for improving livelihoods, promoting stability and addressing the basic needs of farmers.

The launch comes as Syria continues efforts to address economic challenges and seeks to rebuild key sectors following years of war.
