Beirut, Feb.7 (SANA)-GCI Group, which comprises 25 Chinese companies specialized in various fields, announced the opening of a logistics, administrative, and regional center in the town of Chtoura in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, in preparation for participating in reconstruction projects in Syria.
The Group noted in a press conference on Saturday reported by the Lebanese National News Agency that the choice of Chtoura as its base was due to its strategic geographical location and its proximity to the capital, Damascus—only about 50 kilometers away—making it an ideal hub for management.
The Group’s CEO and Head of the Middle East Center for Studies and Development, Wael Yassin, affirmed that choosing Lebanon as the Group’s regional hub for the Middle East and Africa stems from confidence in Lebanon and its pivotal role, as well as belief in the country’s ability to overcome its crises when opportunities and capabilities are made available.
Yassin also outlined the role of each company in supporting economic development, ranging from companies specializing in infrastructure projects to those focused on production lines, agricultural development firms, and companies involved in artificial intelligence and advanced software for managing commercial markets, among others.
He emphasized that all these Chinese companies under the GCI umbrella will play a role in Syria’s reconstruction process in the coming phase.
Yassin stated that China’s orientation toward Syria has become increasingly clear, particularly following diplomatic efforts by the new Syrian government to strengthen bilateral relations with China.
The Syrian–Chinese Business Council signed last January a memorandum of understanding with China’s “Suzhou Land Group,” a leading company in smart industrial city management. The step aims to enhance industrial cooperation and transfer advanced international expertise to Syria.
