Damascus, Feb. 5 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Transport Yarub Badr held talks with World Bank representatives on plans to rehabilitate the country’s railway network and explore technical and investment cooperation to support key transport projects.
During Thursday’s video conference, the officials reviewed the World Bank’s vision for a technical support program aimed at upgrading transport networks, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening the system’s role in supporting trade and economic activity, the Ministry said in a statement on its Telegram channel.
The Syrian minister highlighted several projects of economic importance, including a railway line to transport phosphate from Homs’ Mahin mines to Tartous Port, a container railway line from Lattakia Port to the Sheikh Najjar dry port in Aleppo, and a line connecting the Midan-Ikbis border crossing with Turkey to Aleppo.

Preparatory and reference documents required to launch these projects were also reviewed. The emphasis was on applying the highest international standards to estimate costs, determine technical requirements, and set clear timelines.
The discussions are part of broader efforts by the Ministry, in cooperation with international partners, to secure the necessary technical and financial support for developing transport infrastructure. The goal is to ensure efficiency, safety, and sustainability in line with modern standards, while supporting Syria’s economic recovery, reconstruction plans, and investment in productive and commercial sectors.
