DUBAI, Feb.3 (SANA) Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor discussed Tuesday with a senior International Monetary Fund official ways of expanding technical cooperation, including capacity building, public finance reforms and financial sector development.
The talks, held on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit 2026 in Dubai, brought together Syria’s Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh, Central Bank Governor Abdulkader Husrieh and Jihad Azour, the IMF’s director for the Middle East and Central Asia.
Discussions focused on finalizing a framework for technical cooperation aligned with Syria’s economic priorities, including training programs, improving economic and financial statistics, budget implementation, tax reform, public debt management and public financial management systems.
The IMF was also asked to support central bank priorities such as strengthening banking supervision, maintaining financial stability and upgrading payment systems and financial infrastructure.
Officials also discussed preparations for an IMF Article IV mission expected before the end of the year, which would provide a broader assessment of Syria’s economy and outline reform requirements for the next stage.
