Finance Minister: salary increase to be applied as of next July

Damascus, SANA- Syrian Finance Minister, Mohammad Yasser Barnieh, said that the salary increase issued on Sunday by a decree from President Ahmad al-Sharaa will be applied as of next July.

“The step is not a separate one, but rather it is part of a broader reform package being implemented to improve wages, salaries, and the living conditions of citizens,” the Minister told SANA in an interview.

He added that since the first day of the government assignment, President al-Sharaa gave directives to the Ministry of Finance to achieve this increase, and work has been done over the past months to reach this target.

“The employee whose salary was SYP 400,000 or 500,000, now it becomes nearly SYP 1,200,000 or 1,500,000,” the Minister elaborated.
