Syria’s Central Bank Governor says old banknote exchange running smoothly

Damascus, Jan. 7 (SANA) Syria’s Central Bank Governor said on Wednesday that the old banknote exchange is proceeding smoothly and urged the public not to rush, noting that authorities are prepared to extend deadlines if necessary.

Abdulkader Husarieh, governor of the Central Bank of Syria, made the comments after touring several currency exchange centers in the capital, Damascus. He said the process is being carried out in an orderly manner and that no major obstacles have been reported so far.

“There is no need for urgency,” Husarieh said in a statement. “Deadlines will be extended if required to ensure that everyone can complete the exchange comfortably and without pressure.”

He said the aim is to keep the process simple and accessible, calling on the public to follow official instructions and monitor government updates.

Husarieh also praised employees of the central bank and both public and private financial institutions for their cooperation.

On Sunday, Husarieh and Economy and Industry Minister Nidal Al-Shaar conducted inspections of several exchange centers in Damascus to review operations and assess the implementation of approved procedures.
