Syria, Turkey discuss role of border crossings in boosting trade integration

Damascus, Jan. 07 (SANA)   Head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce Alaa al-Ali discussed with Alp Eran Yılmaz, governor of the Turkish Cilvegözü border crossing, the importance of land crossings in enhancing trade integration between Syria and Turkey.

During the meeting, held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce in Damascus, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen commercial cooperation and expand economic coordination between the two countries.

Al-Ali stressed the depth of the historical and economic relations between Syria and Turkey, highlighting the importance of opening new horizons for joint cooperation that serve mutual interests.

For his part, Yılmaz expressed pride in the ties linking the Syrian and Turkish peoples, reaffirming Turkey’s keenness to support Syria’s recovery across various sectors. He also congratulated the Syrian economic sector on the first anniversary of what he described as the victory of the Syrian revolution.

The two sides agreed to enhance trade cooperation and to organize direct meetings between Syrian and Turkish businesspeople, with the aim of supporting commercial exchange and serving the interests of both friendly peoples.

The Cilvegözü crossing is the Turkish border point opposite Syria’s Bab al-Hawa crossing, located in Turkey’s Hatay province. It is considered a main gateway for the movement of goods, humanitarian aid and travelers between the two countries.

The Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce was established in 1975 and is headquartered in Damascus. It works to safeguard the interests of commercial chambers across the country, coordinate their activities, develop cooperation among them, and represent them domestically and internationally.
