Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal al-Shaar, held talks with U.S. Congress members Ibrahim Hamada and Joe Wilson, as well as representatives from American research and economic institutions, to explore mechanisms for supporting economic projects in Syria and enhancing the participation of U.S. companies in the Syrian market.

The discussions, held in Washington, D.C., focused on the importance of establishing a new framework for economic and technological cooperation between Syria and the United States, with the aim of facilitating technology transfer, encourage direct investment, and improve Syria’s business environment—moving beyond traditional aid models.
Minister al-Shaar emphasized that such partnerships represent a strategic step toward boosting national economic growth, contributing to reconstruction efforts, and achieving long-term sustainable development.
In a separate meeting with officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce, al- Shaar explored ways to ease trade and customs restrictions and promote direct American investment in Syria.
During his visit to the United States, which began two days ago, minister al-Shaar also met with officials from several international economic institutions.
The goal was to open new horizons for economic relations and establish partnerships based on mutual interests, paving the way for Syria’s return to an active role in regional and global economic affairs.
